Wider is better - this trend is becoming increasingly clear for gravel bike tyres. Schwalbe is now launching two popular tread patterns in an XXL version. G-One RS and G-One RX are now also available in a 60-millimetre width - the former MTB size of 29 x 2.35 inches.

This trend is unstoppable: Tyres on gravel bikes are getting wider and wider. Tyre giant Schwalbe is responding and is launching two of its most popular gravel treads in extra-wide versions. The tried-and-tested G-One RX Pro and G-One RS Pro models are now available in extra-wide 60 mm tyres. This is the German manufacturer's response to the growing demand for even more versatile gravel bike tyres for extreme use. Fun fact: 60 mm is equivalent to 2.35 inches. Not so long ago, this width was reserved for downhill-orientated mountain bike fullys. The new sizes are now available from specialist dealers.

G-One RX Pro 60 mm - The ultra bikepacking specialist

The G-One RX PRO in 60-622 or 29 x 2.35 was specially developed for the extreme demands of ultra-bikepacking. For multi-day races over thousands of kilometres, three factors are crucial: reliability, durability and optimum riding characteristics - even when fully loaded. The tyre in the new size weighs 815 grams. The RX Pro is at the "off-road end" of Schwalbe's gravel range. It comes exclusively in black and Race-Guard version with the fast Addix Race rubber for 68.90 euros.

The focus is on maximum damping and versatility on demanding terrain. G-One Overland Pro now also in 55 mm

In addition to the new 60 mm tyres, Schwalbe is now also offering the G-One Overland Pro in size 55-622. According to the manufacturer, this tyre is the ideal choice for bikepacking adventures of all kinds and is an ideal intermediate size in the extended gravel portfolio.

Conclusion: Schwalbe focuses on plus-size in the gravel segment

The fact that the XXL tyres work is demonstrated not least by various successes in classic gravel races. In everyday use, however, the tyre clearance of most gravel bikes remains the limiting factor for the time being. Only very few current bikes can accommodate the new XXL tyres. But this is likely to change. The wide tyres offer more comfort, better traction and greater puncture resistance - perfect if the gravel bike is ridden a lot away from asphalt and fine gravel.
