In the "Already driven" section in BIKE 2/2019 we presented the Maxxis Ardent Skinwall.
We had complained that the tyre could not be sealed despite the tubeless-ready designation. This was of course incorrect, because not the tubeless version (TR EXO) of the tyre, but a tyre has been tested for use with an inner tube. The following was the wording in the presentation:
The Maxxis classic is now available in a hot-roddy whitewall version. Like the standard version, it impressed in the comparison test with its solid casing and good rolling resistance. The 2.4 inch wide 29er tyre provides plenty of grip and cushioning on the trail. However, despite the tubeless-ready designation, the stylish tyres could not be sealed. Neither washing-up liquid nor an extra portion of sealant helped. The missing rubber layer on the side is probably to blame. The air slowly creeps through the bare carcass.
Under the given circumstances, we naturally have to revise our judgement and adjust the rating. In the riding test, the Maxxis Ardent impressed with its superior performance. Since the tyre shone on the trail with good grip and pleasant damping, the arrow moves significantly further in the direction of "super". This makes the tyre a recommendation for trail bikers who ride with a classic tube and are looking for an extra portion of style for their bike.
We will test the tubeless version Maxxis Ardent Skinwall TR EXO as soon as possible.
