No more flat tyres! The wish sounds too good to be true. On an E-MTB, tyre inserts bring the dream one step closer. Six times puncture protection against punctures in the lab and in practice

Too heavy, too sluggish - for these reasons, puncture protection tyre inserts are a rare species on conventional mountain bikes. On e-MTBs, the systems have what it takes to make a breakthrough, as the additional weight plays a subordinate role thanks to motor support. The little helpers significantly minimise the risk of punctures and make e-biking more carefree. We recommend additional protection, especially on rear wheels with wide plus-size tyres, so that the tyre can be ridden with low air pressure, which improves grip. This requires the tyres to be fitted tubeless. All systems only work with tubeless systems, for which almost all rims and tyres on modern e-mountainbikes are now prepared.

Florentin Vesenbeckh has been on a mountain bike since he was ten years old. Even on his very first tour, he focussed on single trails - and even after more than 30 years in the saddle of an MTB, these are still the quintessence of biking for him. He spent his youth competing in various bike disciplines and later his cycling career was characterised by years as a riding technique coach. Professionally, the experienced test editor now focusses on e-mountainbikes. In recent years, the qualified sports scientist and trained journalist has tested over 300 bikes and more than 40 different motor systems in the laboratory and in practice.
