The Rockshox Reverb AXS is the classic wireless dropper post. Can the wireless dropper post hold its own against the new competition from Kind Shock? We took a close look at both electric seatposts.

Topics in this article

The Rockshox Reverb AXS has been the undisputed top dog in wireless dropper posts for years and can be integrated into Sram's electric ecosystem using the company's own AXS technology. Its wireless protocol is considered fast and reliable and because its battery is compatible with the AXS drivetrains, the Rockshox Reverb AXS is the ideal complement to Sram's wireless groupsets. The latest version of the Reverb AXS offers a maximum travel of 170 mm. Can the classic wireless dropper post maintain its place at the top against new competitors such as the Kind Shock Lev Circuit?

In addition to plenty of air and a black foam display, the large Reverb AXS box contains everything you need to set up the dropper post. Sram also supplies the matching charger for the post, controller and battery. A small lever that operates the bleeding system is also included in the box. As is typical for Sram, the operating instructions are sober, but explain all the necessary steps in a clearly understandable way. A QR code is used to download the app, which can be used to integrate the Reverb AXS into the Sram system.

Fitting the Rockshox Reverb AXS dropper post

The term "plug-and-play" hits the mark here. Push the support into the tube, fit the lever, make the connection and you're ready to go. Mounting a telescopic support could hardly be easier. The two components are paired with three button clicks, that's all it takes. Rockshox has also come up with a clever system for mounting the saddle. If you open the two side clamping jaws, the saddle can simply be pushed into the mount from above. Both round and high oval frames fit here. The angle can be adjusted with millimetre precision using a separate Torx screw. There is no better solution for this on any other support in the test.

How does the telescopic support get onto the bike? It's actually quite simple. With our step-by-step guide the installation of the lowerable seat post is no problem.

Ease of use & function

The Reverb AXS also scores highly in terms of operation. Although the paddle cannot be positioned perfectly in every combination - there is also no adapter for Shimano's I-Spec levers - the button is pleasing with its crisp and clearly defined feedback and sufficiently large support for the thumb. Short travel, a clear click and you're ready to descend with the support. There is virtually no delay. The AXS protocol works extremely quickly.

Which brings us to another plus point: The combination of short actuation travel and fast response means that intermediate positions can be found very easily both when lowering and extending. The post itself runs extremely smoothly and with very little lateral play. We know from the Reverb that the seatpost occasionally pulls a little air and becomes crumpled. However, this problem can be rectified with a quick reset on the so-called vent valve. The necessary tool is included with the seatpost. If necessary, the process can also be carried out manually on the road.

Because the Reverb is integrated into Rockshox's AXS ecosystem, the post can also be displayed in the app. This gives you a good overview of the remaining battery life. It is difficult to give an exact figure for the battery life, but in our tests we achieved an average of around 40 riding hours, which is quite decent. The button cell on the controller usually lasts for several years.

A good solution: the battery indicator is located on the side of the seat post and is clearly visible even when the saddle is fitted.Photo: Stefan FreyA good solution: the battery indicator is located on the side of the seat post and is clearly visible even when the saddle is fitted.

Conclusion & evaluation

In terms of installation and operation, the classic wireless dropper post is hard to beat. Plug-and-play is the keyword for the Rockshox Reverb AXS. The large paddle is crisp and clearly defined, and intermediate positions are easy to find thanks to the fast AXS protocol. The post itself runs smoothly and quickly and is also reliable in the long term. Top: battery management via app or clearly visible light on the post head, long runtime and venting function. Less good: high weight and only available up to 170 mm travel.

Apart from the high weight, the Rockshox Reverb AXS is an absolute top-of-the-range dropper post.Photo: Stefan FreyApart from the high weight, the Rockshox Reverb AXS is an absolute top-of-the-range dropper post.
