Tiny suction cup-like rubber pads stick to the saddle nose of the X Zero from Prologo like squid tentacles. They are designed to increase grip, absorb shocks and allow air to circulate better.

When rolling in on the way to the home circuit, you don't notice much of this at first. The seat is race-style firm, but not uncomfortable. The saddle cover is grippy, but otherwise inconspicuous. The small suction cups only really come into their own on the climbs. If you sit on the nose of the saddle on steep terrain, you sit much more firmly than on a normal saddle and can apply your leg power better to the pedals. On flat terrain, on the other hand, you remain fully mobile on the saddle. We couldn't feel the improved air circulation or even the ergonomic massage that the manufacturer promises, but frankly we didn't expect to. For racers, the X Zero is certainly a way to squeeze a few more watts out of your legs.

PLUS Super grip when climbing, clean finish
MINUS Quite expensive, somewhat heavy despite carbon frame, for narrow bums

BIKE judgement SUPER

Weight 201 grammes
Price 245 Euro

For technical descents, he is prepared to tackle almost any ascent - under his own steam. As an accessories specialist, he is the first port of call for questions about equipment and add-on parts, while as head of copywriting he sweeps the language crumbs from the pages of the BIKE print editions.
