Vario seatposts have become an integral part of enduro and all-mountain mountain bikes. This is because the lifts guarantee more riding fun and safety on technical trails, as the saddle height can be adjusted to the respective riding conditions in a flash.
The new Magura Vyron eLECT scores with even more functionality and ease of use thanks to the wireless remote control. With a quick press of a button on the handlebar remote, the saddle height can be lowered continuously by up to 150 millimetres. Press it, sit on it and the seatpost retracts. Pressing the button again returns it to the optimum pedalling position. But what happens with seatposts from Rock Shox, Kindshox and the like using a hydraulic cable or cable pull, works wirelessly with Magura. Because the Vyron is equipped with the eLECT remote control (remote) familiar from Magura suspension forks and Magura dampers with ANT+ wireless technology - a technology that has already proven its worth in locking the chassis.
The eLECT remote control can be mounted on either the left or right side of the handlebar, depending on your preference and the space available in the cockpit. The three buttons on the remote control can then be conveniently operated with the thumb from the handlebars. If you also have a Magura suspension fork and/or a rear shock with eLECT function on board, you can control everything with one remote: the three buttons on the remote control then optionally control the seat post and suspension elements. The whole thing is then called optimum bike control at the touch of a button.
The stepless lowering of the Magrua Vyron is hydraulic, with Magura Royal Blood being used as the medium inside the Vario support. This means that the system is practically maintenance-free - and if it does need bleeding, the Vyron hydraulics are very easy to do. Thanks to the absence of a cable and the rubberised quick-release fastener on the handlebars, there is no need for time-consuming cable routing. This means that the Vyron can be transferred from bike to bike in just a few simple steps.
If the Magura Vyron is not operated for a while and the bike is stationary, it automatically switches to sleep mode. This saves battery energy. However, a motion sensor in the seatpost electronics ensures that it can be activated and lowered again when you continue riding. And if the battery runs out? The Magura engineers have also thought of this case. If the battery in the remote control or the battery in the Vyron is low, up to 20 emergency lowering operations are still possible. But at the touch of a button on the head of the Vario seatpost. The battery is charged - as already known from eLECT suspension forks - via a micro USB plug. According to Magura, the Vyron battery should last for 400 lowering operations.
The Vyron will be available from specialist retailers from November 2015 in two diameters: 30.9 mm and 31.6 mm. Price: around 400 euros.
The eLECT system is now completed by a digital wireless computer as a multifunctional control centre. This connects the various eLECT products from Magura with each other and enables the fork, shock and Vario seatpost to interact with each other. The eLECT Coach display shows the rider information on the operating status of the suspension fork, damper and Vario seatpost as well as the charge status of the respective batteries. This means the rider always knows whether the suspension is currently open or in lockout mode. An invaluable advantage, especially for racers in competition. The range of functions of the eLECT Coach as a bike computer is almost unlimited - depending on which sensors are connected via ANT+: Speed and distance travelled, cadence, power, heart rate data and much more. If altitude measurement data is also supplied via smartphone GPS, this can also be shown on the display.
You can get an overview of your collected kilometres and data with the smartphone app developed by Magura - for Android and iOS - and its cloud service. You can decide in advance whether the analysis is only for your personal training diary or whether you want to share your data on social media networks (from Facebook to Strava). As an alternative to the eLECT Coach app, other sports and fitness apps can also be integrated. The Magura eLECT Coach will be available from November 2015 with a handlebar/stem mount, O-rings and cable ties for 80 euros.
