Fox is expanding its range of electronic dropper posts with a model that integrates directly into the power supply system of modern e-mountain bikes – thereby solving a long-standing problem for many riders. This could be the breakthrough for electronic dropper posts. But there’s still a catch.
Electronic dropper posts have not really caught on so far. This is because, in addition to their high price, their bulky appearance and the hassle of managing the battery were major drawbacks. The integrated version of the Fox seatpost could change that. This is a logical step for e-bikes, although it still needs to be adapted to the relevant motor systems.
With the Transfer Neo E-Optimized, Fox is taking a decisive step towards seamless e-bike integration. The principle sounds simple, but makes a noticeable difference in practice: instead of a separate battery mounted on the seatpost, the new version of the electronic wireless dropper draws its power directly from the e-bike’s drive system. This eliminates two issues that users of the previous electronic dropper model regularly encountered – the visually unappealing external battery on the seatpost and the hassle of recharging an additional power pack.
Apart from the new power supply, the Transfer Neo E-Optimized remains technically very similar to the existing Transfer Neo range. The seatpost is available with a travel of up to 240 millimetres, and the adjustment range can be reduced in 5-millimetre increments by up to 25 millimetres. This allows riders to find the ideal setting and get the most out of the seatpost’s maximum travel. The seatpost is compact in design, which also helps to maximise the adjustment range.
The Fox Bike app can be used to configure the shock and access an integrated service tracking feature. Combined with the Transfer Neo Lever, which is designed to impress with its ergonomic design and precise actuation, Fox promises a well-rounded package.
The new seatpost has one clear limitation at launch: the E-Optimized is initially compatible only with the Specialized Levo range – specifically the Levo 4, the Levo R and the Levo Evo. Specialised dealers should be able to provide full support with the installation for those retrofitting their bikes. According to Fox, compatibility with other drivetrain systems is planned for 2027, although specific models and manufacturers have not yet been named.
This significantly limits the target audience at launch. Anyone who doesn’t own a Levo will have to be patient for the time being.
As usual, the Transfer Neo E-Optimized is available in two grades: Factory or Performance. The Factory Series, featuring the iconic Kashima coating, costs US$659, whilst the Performance Elite costs US$589. The required cable harness costs US$35, whilst the Transfer Neo Lever costs US$219. Fox has not yet announced European prices for the launch.
