It's actually incredible what the parts specialist Contec has put together a package. For 250 euros, Contec offers the "Drop-A-Gogo", a dropper post that offers everything a biker's heart desires. And even at the recommended manufacturer's price, it is significantly cheaper than the competition from Fox, Rockshox and co. You won't find it.
In terms of technology, Contec is following a well-established path that has also proven itself with numerous other manufacturers. A closed air cartridge works inside the post, which is controlled by a Bowden cable and is freely adjustable in height. The Bowden cable can be easily shortened or replaced, and the cartridge and Bowden cable reduce the weight compared to open systems with hydraulic control. As with the much more expensive Fox Transfer or the Kindshock Lev Integra.
As befits a modern MTB dropper post, the Bowden cable runs inside the frame and - unlike the competition - two levers are supplied: One for use with a front derailleur and one if you don't have a front derailleur on your bike. The dropper post is available in lengths of 100, 125 or 150 millimetres, and the weight of 540 grams is just fine. The competition can't do any better. At 440 millimetres, the post is exactly the same length as the top dog Rockshox Reverb Stealth with the same extension of 150 millimetres, and the minimum insertion depth of just 100 millimetres is even slightly less than the Rockshox Reverb with 125 millimetres. Plus: If something does break, you can rely on the German service centre at the headquarters in Hoya (Lower Saxony).
The Contec "Drop-A-Gogo" will be on sale from the end of March for 249.95 euros. You can also find all information about the dropper post on the Website of the manufacturer.
