Tout Terrain, a German manufacturer of touring and adventure bikes, is launching the Touring Pedal II, a new bicycle pedal that has been specially developed for trekking and touring bikes.

Tout Terrain Touring Pedal II: Combination of platform & click system

The special feature of the Touring Pedal II is its double-sided design. The pedal combines a platform coated with grip tape and a click system to provide optimum grip with both normal road shoes and special cycling shoes.

According to Tout Terrain, this versatility also makes the pedal interesting for bikers who appreciate the freedom of a platform pedal in technical passages but want to benefit from the efficiency of a clipless system on long climbs.

According to the manufacturer, this combination should ensure maximum traction without damaging the soles of the shoes. The large contact area of 65 by 100 millimetres is intended to enable even pressure distribution and increase pedalling comfort, especially on long tours.

Robust construction & versatile application options

The body of the Touring Pedal II is made from a single block of aluminium, which should give it a particularly robust and durable construction. Tout Terrain uses a combination of ball and plain bearings which, according to the manufacturer, are easy to maintain. A special seal protects the bearings from dirt and moisture. The chrome-molybdenum steel axle should provide enough strength and stability even for heavy people or heavily loaded touring bikes.

With a weight of 400 grams per pair as stated by the manufacturer, the Touring Pedal II is in the middle range for pedals in this category, but remains lighter than some competitor models, such as the one we have already tested. double-sided bicycle pedals Shimano Deore XT (PD-T8000) or the even more specialised Combi pedals for off-road use on mountain bikes. The pedal is SPD-compatible, the matching cleats and screws are included in the scope of delivery.

Range of use & price of the Tout Terrain bike pedals

Tout Terrain has positioned the Touring Pedal II for use on the road, on tours and in the all-road sector. With a price of 84.90 euros, it is in the middle price segment for pedals in this category.

The manufacturer emphasises that the pedal is particularly suitable for cycling shoes with softer soles, as the increased contact surface is similar to that of large Mountain bike pedals with platform to better distribute the pressure. Compared to specialised pedals, the Tout Terrain Touring Pedal II literally offers a more versatile solution for a wide range of applications.
