The French component manufacturer Time is expanding its pedal range with a new model for demanding off-road use. The Xysto is aimed specifically at downhill and enduro bikers who are looking for a robust and reliable pedal system for technically demanding routes.
The asymmetrical design of the pedal is intended to adapt to the natural shape of the sole of the shoe and thus enable optimum power transmission. With an extra-large platform measuring 79 x 94 millimetres, the Xysto offers a significantly larger contact surface than conventional clipless pedals.
This should provide more grip and control, especially on rough terrain. The platform is made of aluminium and anodised in dark grey, which is not only visually appealing, but should also increase durability.
The Xysto utilises the tried and tested ATAC technology (Auto Tension Adjust Concept) developed by Time. This is designed to ensure easy click-in and reliable performance in all conditions.
According to the manufacturer, a special feature of the ATAC system is its self-cleaning function: mud and dirt are to be automatically removed from the mechanism every time it is clicked into place. This could significantly increase reliability, especially in muddy conditions.
The release tension of the pedals can be individually adjusted so that riders can optimally adapt the pedals to their preferences and the respective area of use. The scope of delivery includes 13/17-degree cleats, which allow a certain freedom of movement of the foot on the pedal. The Time Xysto is also compatible with the ATAC EASY 10-degree cleats, which are designed to enable faster unclicking.
The pedals have an axle length of 57 millimetres, which should represent a good compromise between ground clearance and stability. With a weight of 226 grams per pedal, the Xysto is in the middle range for pedals in this category.
The pedal height is 18.3 millimetres, which should enable efficient use of force when pedalling. The bearings are made of steel in favour of high durability and resilience.
A special feature of the Xysto is the ability to customise the placement of the grip pins. This allows riders to optimise the grip of the shoe on the pedal according to their personal preferences or the requirements of the route.
The pins can be fitted or removed at different points on the pedal platform, for example to achieve more grip at the front or rear of the pedal. This customisation option is particularly beneficial for changing track conditions, individual preferences or different riding styles.
