The new "Limited Edition" GRX SPD pedals PD-M8100-UG from Shimano are intended to pay homage to the booming gravel segment. According to Shimano, gravel fans can expect the advantages and strengths of the Deore XT pedals with this special model, but now in a new, limited "United in Gravel" design.
According to Shimano, the double-sided GRX SPD pedals offer a wide tread surface and a flat profile, which should ensure maximum stability on difficult terrain or loose ground. This keeps your feet securely on the pedals even on long or particularly demanding gravel tours and ensures efficient power transmission. Incidentally, SPD stands for Shimano Pedalling Dynamics.
The staggered arrangement of the binding mechanisms on both sides is intended to increase resistance to dirt and enable safe engagement and disengagement, even after carrying or pushing through deep mud. Mountain bikers and cyclocross riders rely on the dirt resistance of SPD pedals in World Cup races and under the most extreme off-road conditions, and with the new GRX pedals, gravel bikers should now also benefit from this.
The hard-wearing SPD binding system from Shimano is designed to ensure a secure connection between shoe and pedal, even under the toughest conditions, while still enabling quick, easy and reliable engagement and disengagement. As with all Shimano SPD pedals, according to Shimano, the release hardness of the "Limited Edition" GRX pedals can also be adjusted so that the strength of the connection between rider and bike can be customised.
