All about bearings, cages and bindings
What makes a bicycle a bicycle? There are bikes without gears, without brakes and even without chains, but hardly any bikes without pedals.

It was this underestimated part that transformed Karl Drais' running machine into a serious means of transport. In our basic knowledge section, we explain the difference between high-quality and cheap pedals and recommend the best products for city, touring and sport.

Pedals fulfil an extremely important function as a link between man and machine. In simple terms, there are two types of pedals: conventional pedals with a cage or platform, some of which can also be ridden with pedal hooks, and clipless pedals with mechanical bindings. This article aims to outline the wide range of pedals that are relevant for urban cyclists, commuters, tourers and trail riders using twelve models, some of which are very different.
