Magped presents the Gravity, a new magnetic MTB pedal specially designed for downhill and enduro use. The pedal is CNC-milled from 7075 aluminium and positions the magnet in front of the axle to enable a centred foot position. It is available in two magnet strengths and will be available from March 2025.

The Austrian company Magped is expanding its range of magnetic pedals with a new model for demanding mountain bike disciplines. The Gravity pedal has been specially developed for the requirements of downhill and enduro riders. Compared to the existing Enduro2 model, the Gravity enables an optimised foot position by placing the magnet strategically in front of the pedal axle. This design aims to position the foot further forward on the pedal, which is particularly advantageous on steep descents and technically demanding passages.

Magped Gravity: Construction and material

The pedal body of the Magped Gravity is CNC-milled from a block of 7075 aluminium. This material, which is also used in the aerospace industry, is designed to ensure high stability and low weight at the same time. At 112 millimetres long and 110 millimetres wide, the pedal platform of the Gravity has been designed to be slightly larger than that of the Enduro2 model. The height is 17 millimetres. To improve stability, the pedal has interchangeable SWITCH pins, which are available in two lengths (9 and 11 millimetres) and can be individually configured.

Technical details and variants of the MTB pedal

The Gravity MTB pedal is equipped with a reinforced 12-millimetre steel axle which, according to Magped, is designed to withstand extreme loads and impacts. It is available in two versions with different magnet strengths: The Gravity 150 with a magnetic force of 150 newtons and the Gravity 200 with 200 newtons. The weight per pair of pedals (without pins) is 488 grams for the Gravity 150 and 518 grams for the Gravity 200. Magped recommends the 150 Newton version for riders weighing up to 80 kilograms, while the 200 Newton version is intended for people over 75 kilograms.

Scope of delivery and availability

In addition to the pedal pair, the Gravity pedal comes with magnets, metal plates for SPD-compatible shoes, magnetic screws in two lengths, a hexagon spanner and 50 steel pins. The pins can be fitted in two different lengths to customise the grip. The Gravity pedal will be available from 30 March 2025.

Area of application and target group

Magped's Gravity pedal is explicitly aimed at downhill and enduro riders who need precise control over their bike in challenging terrain. According to the manufacturer, the combination of the larger platform, the optimised magnet position and the variable pins should enable improved balance, stability and control in steep and technically challenging passages.

MTB pedals made of plastic are currently very fashionable. The flat pedals made of nylon or fibre composite material look stylish, are light and inexpensive. But do these plastic pedals stand up to tough off-road use? Ten MTB pedals compared.

For all control freaks among mountain bikers: Six clipless pedals in the test that have you firmly under control.
