Ergonomic pedals: Ergon PT platform pedal test
The ergonomic Ergon PT pedals for touring and everyday riding are designed to optimise foot alignment for greater comfort and riding enjoyment. The pedal was presented for the first time at Eurobike 2022 and MYBIKE was able to test it before the market launch in spring 2023.

Ergonomic pedals are not a new invention - not even from the specialised Ergon brand. But there are always new materials and technological developments, such as the Ergon PT pedal, which was presented at the Eurobike trade fair this year. MYBIKE magazine had already reported on it (see below). The first test samples are now available. But beware! The pedals won't be available in shops or online shops until spring 2023.

The Ergon PT pedals in the MYBIKE test

We sent three test riders out with the new pedals - on tour, through the city, to the shops, to the office. First things first: all three were impressed. The relatively large, flat griptape contact surface proves to be very comfortable when pedalling, especially when wearing shoes with soft soles. The pedal surface is non-slip in both dry and wet conditions. The inner stop towards the axle is also very helpful. The weight of 450 grams is fine.

The only small drawback: if the soles of the shoes are full of soil, it sticks to the grip tape. This is also likely to be the case with sticky snow. You should therefore make sure the soles are clean before you set off. Pedals with an open cage ("bear paws & co.") are easier to wipe off dirt and snow. Here's a little tester quote: "I'm happy to accept this small shortcoming, as I'm otherwise impressed by the pedal's ergonomics and power transmission."

Eurobike innovation: Ergon presents new ergonomic pedals

The ergonomic Ergon PT pedals are designed to optimise foot alignment and thus ensure greater comfort and riding enjoyment on tours and everyday rides.

The new PT pedals have been ergonomically optimised for demanding touring riders. The design with inner stop is intended to intuitively align the foot correctly on the pedal. The new Ergon pedals are available in two sizes so that the pressure distribution on the footprint is also suitable for (large) everyday shoes. The grip tape surface also increases stability. Riding comfort should also be noticeably increased on longer tours thanks to optimised force transmission and biomechanically improved pedalling.

Pedals in the MYBIKE test

Are you still undecided whether to go for the Ergon PT platform pedal or something else? MYBIKE tested nine other pedals this year. The topics were corrosion, bearings and stability. Read now.
