More platform. That was the call that has been echoing through the flat pedal scene for years - especially from riders with large feet who literally couldn't stand securely on many a pedal. Crankbrothers listened and brought the Stamp Evo onto the market: 20 % more platform compared to the Stamp 7.

133 millimetres × 114 millimetres in size L - these are dimensions that hardly anyone in the flat pedal segment has offered so far. For comparison: the predecessor, the Stamp 7, measures in size L 110 millimetres × 110 millimetres. This sounds like a manageable difference on paper, but makes a noticeable difference in practice. For riders with shoe size 43.5 and upwards, this finally means a platform that actually fits under the whole foot - not one where the shoe protrudes at the side. Crankbrothers promises a noticeable relief of the foot muscles on long descents and a more efficient pedalling action.

Crankbrothers Stamp Evo - The new flat pedal grows by 20 % in platform area and gets a replaceable bashguard on the outer edge. Who will benefit - and who will overshoot the mark? We tested the giant pedal.

Conclusion from Max Fuchs, BIKE test editor

I find it refreshing that Crankbrothers is setting a good example. Really big pedals for big feet - that was long overdue, and the Stamp Evo shows what is possible. For me with a size 42 shoe, the pedals in size L even overshoot the mark: the platform is so big that my shoe can no longer grip the pedal properly. I just stand on top of it and the sole no longer has a chance to enclose the edges, which is essential for a secure footing. But if you have really big feet, this pedal finally gives you the kind of grip I can enjoy on a normal-sized standard pedal. Otherwise, if you were happy with the previous Stamp models, the newcomers are a no-brainer. The grip on the height-adjustable pins is excellent. Although the Stamp Evo Crankbrothers don't claw into the sole quite as aggressively as some of their competitors, you can easily reposition your foot without lifting it completely off the pedal. What you prefer is purely a matter of taste.

The platform: XL at last - and you can feel it

The pedal platform is concave in shape: In the centre, the pedal body measures 11 millimetres in height, towards the outer edge it is 15.5 millimetres. In combination with the 13 pins per side, the sole stands on the pedal as if nailed down.

As usual, Crankbrothers builds the Stamp Evo in two sizes: Size S with a 114 millimetres × 100 millimetres large pedal surface for shoe sizes 37-43.5, size L for shoe sizes 43.5 to 49. Both versions cost 199.99 euros and are available in several anodised colours with matching bashguards.

The Bashguard: Practical, simple, easy to service

Another highlight of the Stamp Evo pedal is located on the outer edge: a replaceable nylon bashguard that protects the actual aluminium pedal body in the event of bumps or falls. Anyone who rides a lot on rocky terrain knows the problem - a few bumps and an aluminium pedal looks like it's been salvaged from a quarry. With the Stamp Evo, you simply replace the bashguard and the pedals look like new. Replacement bashguards are included with the pedal, as are replacement pins. Also good: The parts are available in many different colours, so you can perfectly match the look of the pedals to the colour scheme of your bike.

Inside: Proven - with a practical upgrade

Crankbrothers stays on the safe side with the bearing system: a forged chromoly steel axle rotates in two Igus LL-glide bearings, sealed against mud, dust and water by a double sealing system. A useful new detail: a grease nipple that allows fresh grease to be pressed directly into the bearing chamber without the need for complete disassembly. Anyone who regularly maintains their pedals will appreciate this. Crankbrothers gives a five-year guarantee on the entire pedal - a clear sign that the new design is trusted.
