Crankbrothers 5050-3
After some initial difficulties, the 5050-3 pedal from Crankbrothers proved to be a safe flat pedal with good grip and a sufficiently large contact surface. If it wasn't for the cracked centre bar...

Admittedly, I struggled with the Crankbrothers "50503" at first. On the first test pair, the pins fell out after a short time and then the pedal body even came loose, almost causing me to fall and scaring me badly. At that time, however, it was still a prototype, as we were assured. The replacement and standard pedal arrived and was convincing. The pins were firmly in place, didn't loosen even after a whole season and provided sufficient grip. Nothing cracks, nothing rattles. All good, you would think.

But then we discovered a crack in the plastic column. How could that happen? We didn't actually hit a stone or get stuck on a rock. An isolated incident? Reconciliatory: Crankbrothers offers a five-year guarantee.

CONCLUSION Safe flat pedal with large contact surface and good grip. The pre-production problems have been eliminated. We would be satisfied with the "5050-3" if the centre bar had not torn. But we are not.
