Acros: SPD-compatible pedal with adjustable centre distance
Acros is primarily known for its high-quality headset. Now, for the first time, the Renningen-based company is presenting an SPD pedal for trail bikers with an innovative distance adjustment of the cleat position with a simple name: clipless pedal.

Acros clipless pedals: the name alone reveals what the latest product from the small component manufacturer from Renningen in Baden-Württemberg is all about. The headset tinkerers have opted for an easy-to-understand and tried-and-tested click mechanism, namely Shimano's SPD system. It becomes innovative when you take a closer look at the clipless pedal. With the help of a sleeve inside the pedals, the distance between the clipless mechanism and the crank can be varied by five millimetres on each side.

The highlight of the new Acros pedals is definitely the option of adjusting the distance between the two cleats by ten millimetres using a sleeve, allowing you to customise the pedal a little more to your own needs. In the wider version, the distance between the centre of the pedal and the crank is 57 millimetres. This setting should be particularly advantageous for bikers who want good control on technical trails. The distance can be reduced to 52 millimetres using a kind of spacer disc, which should ensure more efficient power transmission.

In addition, the release hardness of the click mechanism can be adjusted on the Acros pedal. Four stainless steel pins are designed to increase stability and grip on the small pedal cage when the feet are not clicked in. In typical Acros fashion, the pedals are fitted with high-quality bearings. Both ball and plain bearings are used, which are triple-sealed against dirt and splash water.

The small cage of the Acros pedal is beautifully flat. The small cage of the Acros pedal is beautifully flat.

The plain black pedal cage is also equipped with so-called skid plates made of carbon, which should enable easy and smooth clipping in despite the stainless steel pins. The pedals also come with the corresponding cleats. However, the pedals can also be used with standard Shimano or other SPD cleats. This speaks in favour of service-friendliness on the road. SPD cleats are probably one of the few parts that every bike shop is likely to have in stock.

A so-called skid plate is intended to make it easier to get into the pedal when using the pins. This should make self-cleaning slightly worse. A so-called skid plate is intended to make it easier to get into the pedal when using the pins. This should make self-cleaning slightly worse.

The new Acros clipless pedal is now available. A set of the stylish black pedals is already on its way to our editorial office. We will therefore be able to deliver a first test soon.
