Spengle revives the three-spoke cult in 2018
In the nineties, Spengle was a cult brand with its characteristic three-spoke design. Now the Swiss are back and are poaching in the enduro segment with the new carbon system wheel.

Full-sounding, voluminous and somehow precise and exquisite. Present without being obtrusively loud. The sound of a hub often reveals a lot about the wheels that revolve around it. And the cult manufacturer Spengle, which captured the hearts of custom fans in the 90s with its three-spoke wheels, has already done everything right, as you can hear in the video below. The Swiss company has now rolled a new wheel into the showroom that is set to revolutionise the market. "The most advanced balance bike in the world" is the full-bodied claim in the press release. Let's see what the competitors from AX-Lightness, Bike Ahead Composites, Tune, Syntace and others have to say, but the data sounds promising.

Superior properties thanks to monocoque design

The highlight of the new carbon wheel is its construction. The wheel with the characteristic three-spoke design is manufactured in monocoque construction, which means that everything is literally cast from a single mould. The unity of spokes, hub and rim should allow load peaks to be ideally distributed over the entire wheel. The wheel should therefore have unprecedented stability.

Stable and comfortable at the same time

The monocoque construction is also said to have allowed the designers to make the wheel robust and comfortable at the same time. This means that the Spengle Carbon can not only take a beating, but is also a pleasure to ride. Spengle speaks of a high degree of safety in handling, high shock absorption and the strongest rim bed of its kind and has so much confidence in the stability and durability that the new development is not only advertised as the "ultimate enduro wheel", but also comes with a lifetime guarantee.

From 1500 euros, from 1750 grams

The disadvantage of the whole thing: The price, of course, although at 1500 euros for the bare wheels and 1700 euros for the wheels with tyres and accessories, it is still reasonable compared to the competition. And if you're expecting an absolute lightweight, you won't find it here either. After all, the wheelset weighs 1750 grams with an internal rim width of 24 millimetres including thru axles in the only 27.5 inch size available to date.
