Specialized sells its in-house wheelsets under the brand name Roval. The Control SL is the second most expensive model in the cross-country line-up. We tested the wheelset in the lab and in practice.

The Roval-Control-SL wheels from Specialized are not only in the middle range in terms of price (2000 euros), but also in terms of weight (1282 grams) and wheel inertia and rely on tried and tested DT Swiss hubs. The freewheel and ceramic bearings of the 180 mm hub are used.

Thanks to the high lateral stiffness, even heavy riders should have no problems. On the other hand, the Roval wheels are not very good-natured and pass on impacts to the rider unfiltered. The stability of the rim during punctures is good, even under overload the rim tears predictably and does not break completely.
