With the 309 XC, Reynolds presents a completely newly developed wheel series for cross-country use. The carbon wheels have been designed with a focus on lightweight construction and durability and are intended to withstand aggressive XC use despite their low weight. The series comprises three models with identical rim profiles but different hubs and spokes: Blacklabel 309 XC Pro, Blacklabel 309 XC Expert and TR 309 XC.

With the 309 XC, Reynolds presents a completely newly developed wheel series for cross-country use. The carbon wheels have been redesigned from the ground up to meet the increasing demands of modern XC racing. According to Reynolds, the wheels combine low weight for competition use with above-average durability. The series comprises three models, which are all based on the same rim profile, but differ in terms of their features: Blacklabel 309 XC Pro, Blacklabel 309 XC Expert and TR 309 XC.

New rim profile for modern XC requirements

At the centre of the new 309 XC series is a completely newly developed rim profile with an asymmetrical design. The rim was optimised using finite element analysis (FEA) and has a specially adapted carbon structure. Reynolds has placed particular emphasis on balanced vertical compliance. This should not only increase riding comfort, but also improve traction and increase control of the bike. The technology comes from Reynolds' experience in the downhill and enduro sector and has been adapted for XC requirements. A rim with optimised vertical compliance follows the terrain better and offers better control compared to stiffer constructions.

The asymmetrical rim design also enables optimised spoke angles and balanced spoke tension. Reynolds avoids compromises and favours a uniform design that meets all XC requirements. The carbon rims have been specially designed to reduce rider fatigue even during longer XC races. By damping vibrations and impacts, every watt should be utilised more effectively without sacrificing control or precision.

Three models for different requirements

The top model Blacklabel 309 XC Pro is equipped with Reynolds x Industry Nine Solix hubs. These have a five-pawl system with continuous phase shifting, which enables an engagement angle of just 0.59 degrees. This ensures virtually instantaneous power transmission when pedalling. Combined with blade spokes and hand-built quality, this model offers XC racing performance with the aggressiveness of a trail bike, according to Reynolds.

Reynolds emphasises that all three models are based on the same rim profile and offer the same durability and asymmetric architecture. The manufacturer dispenses with marketing gimmicks and concentrates on substantial performance features. Every product bearing the Reynolds name must offer measurable performance benefits for riders. If it does not offer significant benefits, it is not brought to market - that is the Reynolds standard.

Durability meets lightweight construction

Reynolds' approach to durability is part of the company's philosophy. Each 309 XC rim in the Blacklabel series is manufactured using Reynolds' proprietary MR5 layup protocol and is specially optimised for the stresses of XC racing. It still retains the low rotational weight that racers need. Reynolds describes the combination of durability and competitive weight as an engineering feat. This promise is backed up by Reynolds' lifetime warranty and 30-day ride guarantee, which the manufacturer claims is the strongest commitment in the industry.

Three model variants for different requirements

The top model Blacklabel 309 XC Pro is aimed at riders looking for the lightest and most powerful XC wheel from Reynolds that still fulfils the manufacturer's elite performance and durability standards. It combines the latest carbon construction with a 30mm TSS profile, asymmetric balance and Solix hubs for lag-free acceleration.

The Blacklabel 309 XC Expert features the same racing technology with Ringle Super Bubba X hubs and identical profile and MR5 layup. It is designed for ambitious private riders and demanding racers.

The TR 309 XC offers high-quality carbon performance at a competitive price. It shares the advanced rim profile with the Blacklabel models, but is equipped with Reynolds x Ringle SRX hubs and a balanced spoke architecture. This model is aimed at riders who want to combine an authentic racing feel with everyday practicality.
