DT Swiss recall: Carbon rims of the ERC, CRC and HEC models may fail
Unexpected damage may occur to DT Swiss carbon rims from the ERC, CRC and HEC series. For safety reasons, products manufactured from 1 September 2024 onwards should no longer be used with immediate effect.

Topics in this article

This week, the manufacturer DT Swiss reported failures in ERC/CRC/HEC series rims with certain IDs. The problems affect products that have been produced since 1 September 2024, while older products have not yet shown any difficulties. In the incidents, delamination of the rims was detected, which jeopardises safety and poses a risk of accidents. Customers should avoid the affected products and dealers are being asked to remove them from circulation. An investigation is underway to determine the cause. Manufacturers and dealers will be informed of the necessary measures.

We show you the wording of the official recall here.

Recall from DT Swiss

Dear DT Swiss customers,

This week we have received a limited number of reports of failures in products from the ERC/CRC/HEC with rim heights of 35 and 45 mm model range and DT Swiss ID higher than 2750000 received.

In the cases affected, the wheel rims failed. We immediately launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause, which is still ongoing. As things stand, the reports relate exclusively to Products manufactured and delivered from 1 September 2024. Wheels with this type of rim have been successfully on the market for several years without any comparable reports.

In the reported cases, spontaneous delamination (separation of the carbon fibre layers) of the rim flange occurred, which significantly impaired the structural integrity (stability) of the wheel. Due to this damage, there is an increased risk of accidents that could lead to property damage, serious injury or death. As a precautionary measure and in the interests of consumer safety, we ask all customers to stop using the affected products and all distributors, manufacturers and retailers to immediately withdraw the affected products from sale. This Stop Use Notice will remain in effect until the cause is fully resolved. A step-by-step guide can be found below.
