The component specialist from Italy wants to reach almost every type of rider with the new collection. The Arya and Proxima series are aimed at performance-orientated racing cyclists, while the Pura series is suitable for training and everyday use. According to the manufacturer, all models are manufactured in Italy and the rims are almost exclusively made of carbon fibre. Ursus is paying particular attention to the Arya series, which Oscar Onley already used in last year's Tour de France. Following his switch to Ineos Grenadiers, the Briton will no longer be riding with Ursus wheels in the coming season. However, his former team Picnic PostNL will continue to rely on the Italian brand and will be using them from the Tour Down Under (20 to 25 January).
The Ursus Arya is characterised above all by its low weight. The set with 35 millimetre high carbon rims is said to weigh 1250 grams (prev./h. 565/685 grams), the Vonoa spokes are also based on the composite material. For the version with 50-millimetre rims, the Italians quote 1350 grams (prev./h. 610/740 grams). The rims with an inner width of 23 millimetres are tubeless-ready and have a hook profile. The hubs are characterised by ceramic bearings. The 2:1 spoking pattern is striking. Although the Arya is designed for road use, it covers tyre widths between 28 and 45 millimetres. At 2500 euros, the high-end set is the most expensive model in the portfolio.
Ursus offers the Proxima in both road and gravel versions - recognisable by an "R" or "G" in the model name. The Italians also offer a lighter team edition, which is ridden in the World Tour by the Picnic-PostNL pros around veteran John Degenkolb. The regular aero wheelset with 50 millimetres weighs 1570 grams, while the professional version saves 100 grams according to the manufacturer. In addition to the basic versions with rim heights of 35 and 50 millimetres, the Proxima Team is also available in 40 and 60 millimetre versions. Otherwise, the technical characteristics are comparable with the Arya. Ursus did not provide any information on aerodynamic performance. The basic models cost 1500 euros, with a surcharge of 250 euros for the team edition. In contrast to the road wheels, the Proxima G does not have hubs with ceramic bearings. In addition, the gravel wheelset is only available with comparatively flat 35-millimetre rims. The weight is 1435 grams and the price is 1550 euros.
The Pura R and Pura G represent the entry into the new portfolio. While the road versions with 40 or 50 millimetres are based on carbon rims, the gravel wheelset uses an aluminium rim with 25 millimetres. Both models are recommended for tyres up to a maximum of 45 millimetres and are tubeless-ready. The most affordable new products from Ursus cost 990 euros (road, carbon) and 360 euros (gravel, aluminium).
