Wheels with carbon rims are light, but they also make your bank account a lot lighter. The young Dutch company 9th Wave is now placing high-quality carbon sets in the price segment of the aluminium upper league.

The Dirt SM29 trumps with 355 gram light rims including 30 millimetre outer width and asymmetric spoke holes, but only cost 149 euros more than the Mavic Crossmax Pro. Or the other way round: for the price of the complete wheelset, you don't even get two rims from Enve. Great for individualists: the lettering can be painted in the colour of your choice for an extra 100 euros. In almost 1500 kilometres of testing - collected in the Alps, on the Munich Isar Trail and in the Pod Smrkem trail park - the wheels have proven to be stable, fast and stiff. No maintenance work or re-centring has been necessary so far.
