DT Swiss is expanding its hub portfolio with the new 350 Classic DEG for mountain bikes. For this model, the Swiss component specialists rely on the proven toothed disc freehub, which is equipped with 72 teeth in the DEG version. As a result, the hub achieves an engagement angle of just 5 degrees, which enables particularly direct power transmission.
The centrepiece of the 350 Classic DEG is the Ratchet DEG freewheel. The two enlarged ratchets, each with 72 teeth, ensure fast power transmission and a short freewheel travel, for example when coming out of corners. Made from steel, the DEG pulleys are larger than all previous DT Swiss pulleys and should be able to transmit the power of even the strongest riders over a large contact surface for a long time.
The engineers have paid particular attention to ease of maintenance. According to DT Swiss, the innovative design of the 350 DEG hub allows bearings to be changed without special tools, as the threaded ring does not need to be removed. Compared to the 240 DEG hub, the 350 DEG uses larger bearings. These take up more space in the hub body and could not be accommodated in the same position as the smaller bearings of the 240 DEG. As a result, the larger bearings had to be moved further inwards. To ensure the compatibility of the freehub bodies of the Ratchet DEG system, only a larger spacer was necessary.
In addition to the technical development, DT Swiss is also setting visual accents. The 350 Classic DEG is available in three limited colour variants: Pink, green and blue. These editions are limited to 350 units each and will be available from market launch while stocks last. The hub is also available in the standard colour black. The front and rear hubs together cost 370 euros regardless of the colour.
The 350 Classic DEG is aimed at demanding mountain bikers who value reliable and durable components. The low engagement angle should be particularly advantageous in technical terrain where fast reactions and precise power transmission are required.
