Industry Nine: AM wheels Trail 270
With the Trail 270, the high-end wheel manufacturer Industry Nine from America is replacing its previous Trail 245 set. Lighter, more stable, larger inner rim width, still aluminium. These are the facts.

Lighter and more stable at the same time. The new all-mountain rims from Industry Nine are designed to deliver. The name Trail 270 are the lightweight round wheels that replace the previous Trail 245 in the portfolio of the high-end wheel manufacturer from the USA. The name says it all, although Trail is to be understood broadly here. This is because the rims with an inner rim width of 27 millimetres are designed for any trail use on the bike. From gentle touring to full-throttle descents on the Enduro. Industry Nine only has something else in its programme for cross country and downhill.

Trail 270: 1480 grams, just over 1200 euros

The new wheels are available immediately, in 27.5 or 29 inch and with 24 or 32 spokes. The lightweight construction combined with impact resistance drives up the price, but reduces the weight on the scales. The 27.5-inch versions weigh 1480 and 1560 grams respectively, while the 29-inch versions weigh in at 1560 and 1650 grams despite the promised durability of the wheels. Not absolute lightweights compared to carbon wheels, but an absolute top value for aluminium. And for the intended use, even competitive compared to carbon. However, the customer must of course want to afford all this. The complete aluminium wheelset costs just over 1200 dollars. The price in euros is not yet available, but will be in a similar range.

A lot of money for aluminium wheels, but the Trail 270 also competes with much more expensive carbon wheels. And the rest of the wheel is absolutely first class. The Industry Nine Torch hubs are almost legendary, and the spokes are also top shelf. And customers can also choose their own colours from Industry Nine's 11 anodised colours. The only drawback: If you are looking for wheels for plus-size tyres or are heavier than 95 kilos, you are unfortunately in the wrong place here.

Over 1200 dollars for a set of aluminium wheels? Sounds a lot, and it is. But if the wheel only weighs as much as a comparable one made of carbon, then that puts things in perspective.Photo: Industry Nine Over 1200 dollars for a set of aluminium wheels?
