We have already been able to extensively test the inexpensive wheels with a 25 millimetre rim width. At 1650 grams, including the tubeless valves supplied, the Red Zone 3 set weighs 150 grams more than the carbon version and is therefore not particularly lightweight. Nevertheless, the wheels feel very easy to accelerate and therefore remain absolutely competitive in the intended area of use.
The 25 millimetre rim width is no longer quite in line with the current trend, which has increased to 30 millimetres across almost all bike categories, but it gives the tyres we fitted a sufficient width on the ground and also saves a few grams compared to wider rims. The filigree spokes (2.0 and 1.8 millimetres) also reduce the weight on the scales by a few grams.
This also explains why the Red Zone 3 can be accelerated quickly despite its reasonable weight. The uniformly high tension of the spokes also ensures a pleasant stiffness. The built-in conical bearings are easy to adjust and maintain, but have so far run absolutely smoothly and unobtrusively. All in all, the new Fulcrum wheels are an extremely smart and stylish package for fast trail laps at an absolutely convincing price.
