We test a lot of bikes and parts in the BIKE editorial team. But everyone has a favourite part that particularly inspires or delights them. In our short series "Editors' favourite parts", we now present our current favourites. Here Adrian Kaether shows the Acros Enduro Carbon wheels.

Acros prefers to leave long columns of letters and numbers or blatant names to the competition. The carbon wheels from the company from Renningen in Württemberg are just as simple as their name: Acros Enduro Carbon. With black decals on visible carbon, black hubs and spokes, the look is appropriately simple, while the freewheel sounds quite audible in the factory setup. Practical: If you don't like it, you can adjust it in three stages. This requires a bit of knowledge of how to scrape, the range extends from bell replacement to something more discreet. So it can't be completely quiet, but it's still a good idea.

The Carbon Enduro is available with all standard freewheels. The freewheel sound can be fine-tuned from very loud to slightly quieter, depending on personal preference.Photo: Adrian KaetherThe Carbon Enduro is available with all standard freewheels. However, the real strength of the Acros wheels lies in their weight. 1571 grams for our test model in MX (29/27.5 inch) is a really good value for a set of Enduro wheels. At 1235 euros, the price is extremely fair for carbon wheels. The rims impressed us on the trail with their lively handling and made our test bike look remarkably light-footed. We were unable to criticise the classic disadvantages of carbon wheels, such as excessive stiffness and the resulting harsh ride feel. The predecessors were already considered to be quite resistant, and our current wheelset also showed no defects in the short initial test period. Unlike many other lightweight wheels, the Acros Carbon Enduro wheels are not limited to a maximum weight.

The facts about the Acros Carbon Enduro

  • 29 inch, 27.5 inch or Mullet
  • Carbon rims with aluminium hubs
  • Shimano, Microspline or XD freewheel
  • Inner jaw width: 29 millimetres
  • Weight: 1571 grams (Mullet, EMTB measurement)
  • Price: 1235 Euro

Conclusion: The Acros Carbon Enduro wheels

The Acros Enduro Carbon wheels are not much more expensive than good aluminium wheels, but they are really light, stylish and look very well thought out. The lack of weight restrictions inspires confidence and the freewheel sound can be adjusted. Adrian Kaether's favourite thing to do is ride mountain bikes on bumpy enduro trails. The tech expert and bike tester knows all about Newton metres and watt hours, high and low-speed damping. As test manager at MYBIKE, Adrian also likes to think outside the box and tests cargo bikes and step-through bikes as well as the latest (e-)MTBs.
