Many manufacturers are presenting new wheelsets for 2018. All rims will be wider, some wheels will be cheaper and carbon models will be even lighter.

Wheels are a popular tuning component for mountain bikers. Once you've had the pleasure of riding a super-light wheelset, you'll never want to do without that light-footed feeling again. At the FSA BIKE Festival Garda Trentino in Riva, many manufacturers presented new system wheels. Even if some wheelsets go against all common sense, exciting approaches were on show at the festival site.
Bike Ahead Composites with new super-light carbon wheels

Attention lightweight fetishists: The Ahead Composites The Wheels 24 XC SL bike has 28 spokes and, according to company owner Christian Gemperlein, weighs just 1100 grams. An absolute top value that even undercuts his futuristic Biturbo RS wheels. The exact price has not yet been finalised, but the wheelset will cost around 2500 euros and should be available from September 2018.Photo: Georg Grieshaber The SL versions of The Wheels wheels come with DT-Swiss Aerolite spokes and Straightpull hubs. The rims will not be available to buy individually, but only as a complete wheelset.Photo: Georg Grieshaber With a rim width of 28 millimetres, The Wheels XC 28 SL wheelset is designed to appeal to trail riders in particular. At 1280 grams, the SL version is also extremely light.
The Syncos Silverton SL - insane, but awesome
Photo: Georg Grieshaber Syncros is presenting its Silverton SL wheelset with permanently bonded carbon spokes in Riva. The 1250 gram wheelset is reminiscent of the legendary lightweight wheels for racing cyclists. Re-centring is not possible here either. The price knocks the socks off even the tough tuning scene. The wheelset changes hands for 3500 euros.
Reynolds presents affordable carbon wheels

All TRS wheelsets cost 1549 euros. The TR versions for 1299 euros are the cheapest carbon wheels from Reynolds, which - like all Reynolds system wheels - come with a lifetime guarantee.Photo: Ludwig Döhl All price categories (Black Label, TRS and TR) are available with 27.5-inch or 29-inch rims. The rim widths are 24, 30 and 36 millimetres. The 36 millimetre rims are only available in 27.5 inches, all other widths are also available as 29ers.Photo: Ludwig Döhl Compared to the Black Label wheels, the TRS and TR models are fitted with less expensive hubs. Reynolds specifies the following weights for the wheelsets: Black Label XC (29er with 24 mm rim) 1380 grams; TRS XC (29er with 24 mm rim) 1490 grams, TR (29er with 24 mm rim) 1570 grams.

Pi Rope - The flexible spoke is back

The complete wheelset is said to weigh just 1193 grams (27.5 inch) or 1236 grams (29 inch) with a 25 millimetre wide Newmen aluminium rim.
