Renthal brings the Apex V2 to the trails and accompanies the new edition with new spacers and top caps from its own company. Hardly any other stem has earned such a legendary reputation in the mountain bike world as the Renthal Apex: Born from the racing DNA of the British brand, which originally grew up in motocross, the Apex brought a breath of fresh air to an often underestimated component. When Renthal first introduced the stem, it was clear that this was not just another CNC-machined part, but maximum stiffness with minimum weight - developed with feedback from World Cup professionals and tested under the toughest conditions. The Apex quickly became the favourite of many ambitious trail and enduro riders who value precise steering behaviour. The Renthal Apex V2 is now set to continue this legacy. We have all the information on the new stem from Renthal.
Renthal promises increased durability for the Apex V2 by combining forged and CNC-machined elements. The body is made from 2014 aluminium, while the clamping elements are made from 7050 aluminium. To keep the weight low and enhance the finish, the inside of the hollow parts is also elaborately machined. An extra-wide stem body measuring 56 millimetres is designed to offer even greater torsional rigidity. A revised clamp developed with a new angle is intended to provide an improved grip on the steerer tube. The tried and tested 260-degree wrap-around handlebar clamp has been retained. The new Renthal Apex V2 stem is available in lengths of 40 and 50 millimetres as well as 31 millimetres for 31.8 mm clamps and 33 millimetres for 35 mm clamps. The new super-short options are Renthal's response to modern trail bike and enduro geometries. The compact and extra-stiff design is intended to provide direct steering behaviour. The black screw hardware is made of durable, stainless steel. The new Renthal stem will cost 129.99 euros.
Together with the Apex V2, Renthal presents matching spacers and top caps to round off the cockpit both technically and visually. The small parts are also made of high-quality, CNC-milled aluminium. The spacer set contains four parts with heights of two and a half, five, ten and 20 millimetres. The top cap is clamped using a lightweight aluminium screw. The complete set of all parts weighs just 27 grams. The classic Renthal look is provided by anodised surfaces and lasered logos. Here too, there is a choice of black or aluminium gold colours.
I've always loved the Renthal stem. The discreet look and high-quality milled edges give the cockpit a motorsport style with a touch of understatement. The optimised durability and stiffness bring the Apex V2 into the technical present. The extra-short options and the finish kit with spacers and top cap are also exciting. - Jan Timmermann, BIKE editor
