SQlab is launching three new handlebars in the Tour, Trekking and Comfort ranges. With their concept, the ergonomics experts want to reduce the number of possible handlebar shapes and quality levels to just three. And a common price. We show you the new handlebars and take a brief excursion into handlebar ergonomics.

SQlab from Taufkirchen near Munich promises the highest level of safety, as all comfort handlebars are manufactured according to MTB standards. In addition, the handlebars have passed the test protocol for downhill handlebars at the Zedler Institute for Bicycle Technology and Safety with a maximum system weight (bike, person and luggage) of 180 kilograms.

The three new handlebars are designed to offer cyclists safety and stability, ergonomic posture on the bike and are all suitable for use on an e-bike.

Brief excursus on bicycle handlebar ergonomics

The backsweep and downsweep increase with the rise. This always results in the optimum, ergonomic wrist position and maximum relaxation for the neck and shoulders if a more upright riding position is desired. The rise or handlebar height allow you to customise your riding position. The backsweep ensures a straight transition from the forearm to the hand and minimises numb fingers. The downsweep ensures a natural elbow position that relaxes the neck and shoulder muscles.

  • Backsweep = bending backwards
  • Downsweep = bending downwards
  • Rise = handlebar rise

SQlab handlebar 310

SQlab describes the 310 3.0 as handlebars for comfort-orientated mountain bikes used for touring and light off-road riding as well as for urban and fitness bikes. The manufacturer's development goal was to achieve greater stability despite sharp bends, which is crucial for ergonomics. You can remember the following: The more upright the riding position, the more backsweep and downsweep is required. On the 310 3.0 handlebars, 18 degrees of backsweep ensures a straight transition from forearm to hand and relieves strain on the shoulders and neck.

Handlebar 302 from SQlab

SQlab has developed the 302 handlebar for trekking bikes. The rise ensures a more upright sitting position on the bike. The Downsweep offers relaxation for the neck and shoulders. With a width of 700 millimetres, it is designed to ensure safety and stability. However, if the handlebars are too wide for you, you can also shorten them. SQlab has given the handlebars a backsweep of 24 degrees so that there is no kink between the hand and forearm, which can cause numbness or fingers to fall asleep. There is also a 15 degree downsweep, which is intended to make the posture on the trekking bike more ergonomic and relaxed.

SQlab 321 - the city bike handlebars

With the 321 handlebars, SQlab has a city handlebar in its programme for all those who prefer a very upright sitting position. The large backsweep of 35 degrees allows the arms to find a natural position. The 20-degree downsweep relieves the shoulder and neck area, where cyclists often have problems - with the 321, the elbows are brought downwards, allowing a natural posture to be adopted when cycling.
