After Sram established the single drivetrain with XX1 and X01, particularly in the race and enduro sector, a more affordable version is now coming onto the market with the X1. In terms of price, the new groupset should be a good 200 euros below the X01. Nevertheless, the X1 has all the technologies of the more expensive groupsets. According to Sram, no mountain biker needs more than eleven gears. Regardless of which area of use is the focus. The appropriate gradation of the eleven available gears is to be ensured by five different chainring sizes.
The crank of the X1 is made from aluminium. The X-Sync chainrings have the typical wide-narrow profile and are designed to reliably prevent chains from jumping off, even without a chain guide. The crank is available in three versions and weighs between 800 and 850 grams. Five different chainrings (30-32-34-36-38 teeth) should allow the gearing to be customised to the rider's needs.
The new X-Horizon rear derailleur works horizontally and is designed to prevent not only ghost shifting but also chain slap. As with the XX1 and X01, Sram relies on a special friction damper in the rear derailleur for this purpose. For easier wheel removal, the derailleur cage can be fixed in place using the Cage-Lock.
To reduce cassette production costs, the X1 cassette is not milled from a single block. The three small sprockets are manufactured in one piece, while the remaining eight sprockets are individually fitted to the special freehub body. For an optimum gear range, the gradation at the rear extends from 10 to 42 teeth (10-12-14-16-18-21-24-28-32-36-42). The weight is 315 grams.
