The front derailleur on a mountain bike: This inconspicuous component, squeezed between the crank, bottom bracket, rear pivot points and tyres, performs at its best.

After all, the front derailleur has to reliably shift the chain back and forth between the chainrings over 10 to 14 teeth even under load and must not be disturbed by the rear suspension. Lucky those who, like Sram, can simply do without it on their 1x11 drivetrains. Here too, the differences between the groupsets lie less in function than in the choice of materials and weight. Conclusion on Shimano and Sram derailleurs

This is primarily about compatibility. If you want or need to save weight and installation space, there is no way around the high-priced front derailleurs. Everyone else will be well served by the cheaper models.
