Lightweight crank Cannondale Si SL2 on test
For years, Cannondale cranks have been among the lightest on the market when it comes to drivetrains. The Si SL2 crank is the pinnacle of lightweight construction for mountain bikes.

The special thing about the tuning crank: the material. Cannondale achieves a weight of just 513 grams for the complete crank including 30 mm chainring and BB30 bottom bracket, without using carbon fibre. The CNC-milled aluminium crankarms are made from two shells bonded together and weigh just 116 grams per crankarm. The BB30 aluminium shaft also ensures good rigidity. We rode the crank with a Sram-compatible XX1 spider and 30 mm chainring. The only criticism of the lightweight aluminium crank is the Q-factor. Compared to an XX1 or XTR crank, the crank arms are slightly wider. Apart from a few signs of wear on the crank arms, there is also nothing to criticise in terms of durability. The BB30 bearings also continue to rotate very smoothly.
