SRAM's next single-speed groupset is aimed at the entry-level market: next year, the SRAM NX single-speed groupset will be available for around €330, which is not only attractively priced but will also be compatible with standard freehub bodies for the first time. A new eleven-speed cassette has been developed for this, with a slightly narrower range, but which fits virtually every current wheel. An important decision, because not everyone in the entry-level segment wants or can afford SRAM's own XD freehub or even a new wheel.
With the NX groupset, SRAM also wants to establish the advantages of 1x11 systems in the entry-level segment. Because for the Americans, one thing is certain: you don't need more gears. Until now, however, 1x11 drivetrains have simply been far too expensive for the masses. And that's exactly what the NX aims to change. However, NX customers will also have to make compromises in terms of range - even more than before. To ensure compatibility with standard freehub bodies, the smallest sprocket had to be enlarged to 11 teeth. As before, the individual gear ratio is determined via the front chainring. As with the GX, the NX crankset will also be available in children's sizes from 155 mm. All components of the NX groupset can be combined with all other single-speed systems from SRAM.
The new 11-42 cassette reduces the range compared to the 10-42 cassettes, but does not require its own freehub. The three largest sprockets are connected to form a compound, a classic end ring fixes the cassette to the freehub. Price and weight: 89 euros, 538 g.
The NX crank also has the X-Sync tooth profile, in which wide teeth alternate with narrower teeth. A total of eight chainrings are available for the NX crank (26-28-30-32-34-36-38-40) for customised tuning. The crank arm lengths: 155 mm, 165 mm, 170 mm, 175 mm. Price and weight: 120 euros, 680-780 g.
With the X-HORIZON™ design and the X-SYNC™ chain idler with 12 teeth, the rear derailleur also features the same technologies as its more expensive sister models. There are compromises in the choice of materials. Price and weight: 76 euros, 322 g.
