Some time ago, we introduced the affordable and effective Anyrace tuning for the Rockshox Yari. 89 for an upgraded Motion Control cartridge including a shim stack provided better performance at high speeds and hard hits. Conclusion at the time: This doesn't turn the average Yari into a super fork, but a very good one. We could have left it at that and gone our separate ways happily. But we're perfectionists, and if it's not perfect, we'll keep tweaking and tweaking the suspension elements until they're perfect. So the Anyrace Frankenstein cartridge was plucked out again, and the Yari went to Marcus Klausmann - former German DH series champion and suspension tuner.
Compared to Markus' perfectionism, our penchant for improvement is a joke. The man turns every screw twice and tunes his bikes to minimum weight with tuning parts when he's active. His tuning package, a specially tuned FAST compression unit, costs €179 (plus €135 for a full service). That's almost three times as expensive as our first tuning measure. But three times as good?
Marcus asked us about the area of use, the rider's weight and the bike and then sent us his interpretation of the ideal shim stack and basic setup. You can't really see anything from the outside: A black adjustment knob for the compression damping is located where the golden knob was on Anyrace. That's it. With the usual 20 % SAG, we hit the trail. The fork was sensitive, but extremely sporty, even with the rebound fully open. We changed from two to one spacer, ten PSI less air pressure and a half-closed compression stage with a fast rebound stage at the same time - this resulted in a completely different and really great fork! Suddenly the Yari was able to do what only the current Lyrik can do: sensitive at the beginning, good counter-pressure in the middle of the stroke and good interaction between compression and rebound for excellent grip. Plus a pleasant end progression - freeride heart, what more could you want?

STRENGTHS: compression function, individual tuning of the shim stack, cheap becomes high-end
WEAKNESSES: expensive
The step from the Anyrace Yari to the Klausmann Yari was another big one. Also financially. Is it worth it? Compared to the standard Yari: yes. Compared to the Anyrace tuning, you have to have very high expectations to justify the additional 310 euros. But basically, depending on your budget, you can have the Yari turned into a real super fork.
