Suspension forks 2012: 170 mm enduro forks in the test
A lot of suspension travel does not necessarily mean heavy downhill equipment. Modern 170-millimetre enduro forks weigh just over two kilos and smooth out even the nastiest terrain. Five lightweight large calibres in the test.

All-round is not the same as all-round. The definition of this term is always a question of point of view. For my part, at any rate, the category of non-retractable and therefore lightweight suspension forks with 160 to 170 millimetres of travel covers a large area of the mountain bike playground. So not a niche product that collides with the masses? Yes and no. Certainly, so much travel doesn't really make sense in the far north or in moderate low mountain regions. And the lack of drop is also haunted in many people's minds as an insurmountable brake anchor uphill. Nevertheless, the breadth of the application area should not be underestimated. Modern enduro bikes offer very good climbing characteristics with steep seat angles of around 74 degrees, and the excess pounds of the bikes also melt like ice in the midday sun. Weights of around twelve kilos are now possible for downhill-orientated all-rounders, putting them within striking distance of many all-mountain bikes. Not least due to the constantly growing number of enduro events, this type of fork is becoming increasingly important. In our comparison test, we tested the talents of five potent 170 mm forks without drop from € 599 to € 1139 - in the laboratory and in our test area Saalbach-Hinterglemm.
