Because what Rockshox with the domain is truly amazing. The extremely stiff fork with thick 38 mm stanchions and up to 180 millimetres of travel is available for just 594 euros. A good half as much as for the ZEB Ultimate, 160 euros less than for the cheapest ZEB - and unlike the Domain, it does not have adjustable compression damping.
The Domain therefore saves on the casting, which, as with Fox Rhythm forks, is only made of 6000 aluminium and is therefore somewhat heavier. In addition, the Domain still has the old Motion Control damper (the Charger damper in the ZEB). You also have to do without the Debonair air chamber. Nevertheless, the fork was fully convincing in the first test. With very sensitive response behaviour and good counter-pressure, it hardly performed worse than the high-end Rockshox ZEB and Fox 38 forks that we had loaded for comparison. The additional 230 grams are easy to get over. It remains to be seen whether the standard forks will also perform at the same high level as our test specimen.
