Maintain Fox suspension fork and shock yourself
The small service on Fox 32 suspension forks and Fox Float air shocks is not rocket science. Doing it yourself saves a lot of money and waiting time. We show you how to do the service yourself.

Many current bikes are fitted with suspension from Fox. Forks and shocks should be serviced once a year. If you don't have a competent shop nearby, you have to send your Fox components in. Many people know from painful experience that this is expensive and can take a long time. Only very few people realise that the small service on American forks and shocks is not that complicated. With a little skill, you can easily do it yourself. Then you only have to send your products in for a major service after two years, as this requires many special tools.

In this workshop we will show you how to change the oil and replace the wiper rings on the Fox 32 air forks. The price for the spare parts is 23 euros for spare parts plus 12 euros for a quarter litre of 7.5W damping oil. Float air shocks need regular seal changes and a portion of fresh grease. We carry out the maintenance on a Fox Float RP 2. Price for the spare parts: 25 euros.

If you do not scratch anything during maintenance and do not make any mistakes, the warranty remains fully valid.

Small service for Fox 32 suspension forks

The oil should be changed and the scraper rings replaced once a year. Do not let the air out yet. A mounting stand for bicycles is ideal for securing the fork. Remove the fork and clamp it with the steerer tube in the clamping claw of the mounting stand.

Loosen the fork tubes: Use a 10 mm socket spanner to open the two nuts on the underside of the fork legs. On RLC models, you must first remove the blue adjustment wheel for the release hardness of the lockout on the damping side (2 mm Allen screw). Unscrew the nuts so far that about three threads still engage.

Small service on Fox Float dampers

Treat the air chamber of your Fox Float shock to new seals and fresh grease. Clamp the removed shock with the upper shock eyelet in a vice.

This is what the Fox service kit for Float shocks looks like. This is what you need for a small service.
