How to read a spring characteristic curve correctly
Suspension characteristics show at a glance how well or poorly an MTB suspension fork and full suspension work.

In the BIKE test lab, we record the characteristic curve of every fork and every rear triangle, each one individually in the case of adjustable suspension travel. A linear curve with final progression to prevent bottoming out would be ideal. In practice, curves that sag in the middle range (hammock effect) mean that you're rushing through the travel. If the progression starts early, the suspension travel is not being utilised. If the curve rises early, this means a less sensitive response behaviour.
