For 2014, the Fox "40" has been given air as a spring medium and a completely new casting including crowns. These measures are said to have saved over 500 grams - was it really that heavy before?
The 74 PSI specified in the manual is suitable for 20 % sag. In the end, we ran the low-speed compression stage with 20 clicks from fully closed, and the high-speed compression stage with 12 clicks. Rebound 6 clicks from fully closed.Photo: Daniel Simon The 74 PSI specified in the manual is suitable for 20 % sag. In any case, it now weighs well under 3 kilos. The "40" is a top performer off-road. It responds excellently and gives the rider a great sense of security - similar to the "Dorado". The fork suspension is nice and creamy and very sensitive. The compression management works at the highest level and can also absorb big hits at high speed in a very controlled manner. The air spring has a linear characteristic curve over three quarters of the stroke and then an effective end progression. Nevertheless, we utilise the full spring travel. Although it still looks extreme, thanks to the weight diet, the steering stiffness is in line with the competition. The Fox steers very precisely without twitching nervously on lateral impacts. Mature.
