Modern suspension forks operate at a level of performance that was not even dreamt of until recently. But in order to maintain their flawless function in the long term, regular maintenance is required - every 125 operating hours or once a year, according to Fox's official recommendation.
It used to be said that you couldn't do (almost) anything to Fox products yourself without invalidating the warranty. For a long time, US forks had a reputation for being complex and expensive to maintain. "That's long gone. If you work carefully and can reassemble everything correctly afterwards, you can basically do everything on our suspension elements yourself - from servicing to tuning," says Chris Trojer, service expert at Fox. With the service centre in Rodalben and the nationwide network of trained dealers, Fox continues to offer quick help for all cases, "... but almost anyone can do the annual, small fork service at home without any previous abnormalities," admits Trojer.
This is precisely why we have not used professional tools for this workshop, but standard tools that every hobby mechanic has at their disposal. The steps shown below apply to all Fox forks from model year 2012 onwards, both for the 32 mm cross-country fork and for the 34 mm all-mountain and 36 mm enduro models. Only the service kit and the high-quality lubricating oil (Fox 20W Gold Oil) need to be ordered - directly from Fox Germany or from a Fox dealer. In the end, fork care is not only rewarded with long-lasting top function, you also save high service costs and long downtimes with self-help.
