Xdreamlite Max P1700 retrofit motor in test
The Tyrolean technology forge XDL tested its Xdreamlite Max P1700 drive for over three years before the market launch: motor tuning, battery consumption, chain guide - everything optimised.

The motors are customised to the customers and bikes. This pays off: the XDL motor is extremely responsive, easy to modulate, stable and very quiet. Like a Swiss army knife, "Max" always has the right tool at the ready in different situations: outstandingly graduated pedelec support, a great working thumb-push assist and supportive motor-only operation with thumb throttle. These features bring the XDL system close to the best established mid-motor systems on the market. The somewhat long start-up and coasting time (¼ turn of the crank) takes some getting used to at the beginning. Solution: To start off, use the thumb throttle and a brake cut-off switch (left or right, or both) stops the motor immediately. Enormous ranges are possible with the powerful backpack battery. However, a weight of 6.8 kilos is certainly the limit of what you want to carry on long tours and tough descents.

Tip: choose a sturdy, compact-fitting rucksack.

Test summary of the Xdreamlite Max P1700

Conclusion The Tyrolean XDL system offers a real alternative to established mid-motor systems. Thanks to its careful, practical tuning, the various operating modes and the top pedelec function, it is just as much fun on tour as it is in the bike park. On our test bike, the Liteville 601, it fitted the enduro characteristics very well.

Tip: Lowerable fork and a slightly larger frame size.
