Slim and light: New e-bike definition from Fazua
Slim, lightweight and reduced assistance: Fazua wants to redefine the e-bike riding experience with its Evation drive.

As a project bike we have the new wonder e-bike from Focus The revolutionary drive from the small Munich-based company Fazua is now going into series production. The first production bikes with the slim and lightweight motor are also not far off. With the Evation drive, the battery and motor are combined in a single block that disappears completely into the down tube.

With around 60 Newton metres and a maximum of 400 watts, the power of the electric drive is lower than that of the competition. However, the complete system remains a real lightweight at 4.8 kilograms. Weights of 16 kilograms should be possible for a complete fully.

The battery capacity is low at 250 Wh, but the system should work economically. When installed in the mountain bike, tours of 40 kilometres and 1000 metres in altitude should be possible. The resistance of the motor should be very low, so that the bike should ride almost like a normal mountain bike without the battery.

The pure data does not sound very inspiring compared to powerful engines. On the other hand, the low weight promises a new level of driving pleasure. The Eurobike jury honoured the drive unit with a Gold Award honoured.

Florentin Vesenbeckh has been on a mountain bike since he was ten years old. Even on his very first tour, he focussed on single trails - and even after more than 30 years in the saddle of an MTB, these are still the quintessence of biking for him. He spent his youth competing in various bike disciplines and later his cycling career was characterised by years as a riding technique coach. Professionally, the experienced test editor now focusses on e-mountainbikes. In recent years, the qualified sports scientist and trained journalist has tested over 300 bikes and more than 40 different motor systems in the laboratory and in practice.
