With a few e-bikes in the E-Inception series from Stevens with EP800 motor from Shimano and a E-spec-EP800 crankset from the manufacturer E-Thirteen, cracks have appeared on the drive shaft of the motor in practice. According to Stevens, the "extensive corrosion tests based on ISO 9227 I 2017-07" carried out by an independent testing institute also confirmed the damage in the laboratory.
The breakage of the drive shaft poses a high safety and injury risk. Stevens therefore recalls the following 2021 models with EP800 motor and the E-Thirteen crankset as well as a "Commercial delivery date December 2020 to July 2021" back:
In the in-house master workshop at the company headquarters in Hamburg, all affected E-Inception Drive shaft checked and the E-Thirteen cranks replaced with Shimano cranks (FC-EM600). The latter passed all tests.
End customers should return their affected bike as soon as possible to the Specialist retailer who will take over the forwarding to Hamburg and the processing.
