Bosch is expanding its e-bike portfolio, known as the smart system, with two new motors for urban use. Cargo Line and Performance Line Speed offer more power with less weight. There is also a new battery, more app functions and more power for the Bosch SX.

Bosch is expanding the smart system with three new drive units for urban use. Cargo Line, Performance Line Speed and the new Performance Line are designed to make everyday cycling even more comfortable. Both motors are apparently strongly modelled on the new Bosch Performance CX. Cargo Line and Performance Line Speed receive higher performance values analogue to the firmware update of the new Bosch CX. The Performance Line SX light motor from the smart system can also be upgraded via firmware. The innovation package is complemented by the new PowerTube 540 battery and other features in the eBike Flow app.

Powerful support for e-cargo bikes

The new Cargo Line from Bosch now provides additional power for transporting heavy loads in everyday life. With up to 100 Newton metres of torque and 750 watts of maximum power, the Cargo Line on the performance of Bosch's sportiest engine to carry children or shopping, even on steep climbs. The performance values can be customised in the eBike Flow app. Cargo mode provides support of up to 400 per cent, but should be even more sensitive than before.

The push assist and hill start assist, both including Hill Hold, also make handling easier. The new Cargo Line is not only more powerful, but also lighter and quieter than its predecessor. This development is analogous to the new Performance Line CX. The Cargo Line now weighs just 2.8 kilograms and is therefore around 100 grams lighter than its predecessor. The optimised gearbox reduces riding noise and pedalling resistance to a minimum. At the same time, the improved sensor system ensures smooth acceleration and precise handling - regardless of the load. The sensitive response to the rider's pedal input enables greater control and an even more intuitive riding experience.

Up to 45 km/h: The Performance Line Speed

As before, the Performance Line Speed is the ideal drive for commuters who want to ride at higher speeds and get there faster. With support of up to 400 per cent and 45 km/h, 100 Newton metres of torque and 750 watts of maximum power, the motor is specially designed for S-pedelecs, but shares the same performance data with the Cargo Line and Bosch Performance Line CX.

As with the Cargo Line, the performance parameters can now be adjusted via the eBike Flow app. Thanks to the improved software, the Performance Line Speed now responds even more precisely to pedal input. Riders also benefit from the significantly reduced pedalling resistance, which means they retain more of their own power and reach their destination quickly and efficiently. Like the Cargo Line, the Performance Line Speed motor therefore appears to be technically extremely close to the new Performance Line CX.

EMTB+ and power update for the SX

Good news for e-mountain bikers: The Performance Line SX light motor has been given new maximum values: 60 Newton metres of torque, 600 watts of power and also up to 400 percent support. As with the Power update for the CX users can decide for themselves whether they want to keep the default values (55 Nm, 340 %) or whether they want to turn up the power in the eBike Flow app to the maximum.

The performance upgrade will be available to riders of the Performance Line SX via an update in the eBike Flow app in autumn 2025. The eMTB+ mode for the Performance Line SX introduced in spring will also be available via a free update. It offers more support than the eMTB mode as well as maximum dynamics and control. It remains to be seen how the Bosch SX will handle the additional torque in particular. The engine had already become slightly hot on long climbs and often had to reduce its power.

Update for the Bosch SX at a glance

  • Maximum torque: 60 Nm (previously 55 Nm)
  • Maximum power: 600 watts
  • Support factor: Up to 400 per cent (previously 340 per cent)
  • Available from autumn via the Flow app

More range and new app functions

The new PowerTube 540 battery is available immediately. It replaces the PowerTube 500 battery and now offers 540 watt hours of energy with the same weight. The integrated battery fulfils Bosch's usual high safety standards and can be combined with the PowerMore 250 range extender if required.

Bosch is also adding two further functions to the smart system. The use of an e-bike by several people will be simplified: in future, users will be able to invite up to five friends or family members to use their e-bike via the Flow app. Each invited user can create and save a personal profile on their own smartphone. However, the inviting function requires a Flow+ Premium subscription.

Another new feature is the "Battery Lock" function, which will be available from summer 2025. This digital theft protection for the battery ensures that the battery can no longer be used if it is stolen - and is therefore worthless to thieves. As soon as the function is activated, the battery locks automatically when the e-bike is switched off. If a locked battery is stolen and inserted into another bike, it automatically deactivates the motor support. In this way, Bosch wants to take even stronger action against theft.
