In the Bosch app, the Extended Boost situational overrun can now be fine-tuned to personal preferences - from 0 to 10.
The software update for Bosch e-bike motors brings another feature: the Extended Boost will be individually adjustable in future. What does this mean and which motors will benefit? We have all the information.

Bosch still has an outstanding feature for e-mountain bikers on board with the Extended Boost. This situationally controlled coasting is still the benchmark and turns the Performance CX into an uphill artist that navigates through key sections smoothly and lively at the same time. The basic principle of Extended Boost: The software automatically recognises how the rider is acting and adjusts the motor's coasting accordingly. This involves pushing the engine forward when the rider stops pedalling. Powerful and energetic after a clear pedalling impulse or imperceptibly smooth during normal pedalling. With an announced software update from Bosch, which should be available from mid-2026, this Extended Boost can then be individually adjusted. This will allow sporty riders to fine-tune their setup even more precisely to their own preferences.

The Extended Boost gives e-mountain bikers the decisive boost they need to overcome obstacles such as roots, steps or rocks with confidence - even if a full turn of the pedals is not possible. The system provides a maximum extra boost of up to 2 metres - this is specified by law. From mid-2026, the length of the overrun can be set on a scale of 0 to 10 using a new slider in the app. And separately for each driving mode. In future, the extended boost will be available in all modes. Some modes, such as eMTB, eMTB+ or Race, already have a predefined boost length by default, which matches the characteristic feature of the respective mode. The system reacts to the current situation on the trail: shorter and smoother for low steps, longer and more dynamic for high, angular steps.

To understand: The Extended Boost reacts differently in each mode. From emphatically powerful to aggressive in Race mode to moderate in E-MTB mode. Based on this logic, you can use the setting to adjust the length of the trail via the app. With the same app setting, the boost in Eco mode still behaves more discreetly than in Turbo mode. This requires intensive familiarisation with the modes and the topic of coasting. For many occasional bikers, the new function probably has little added value. However, ambitious e-bikers can use it to customise their setup according to their own preferences - or even adapt it to specific route requirements.

By the way: The dynamic setting in the Bosch app also has an influence on how the overrun feels. The higher the dynamics, the more striking the extra boost.

Bosch has also thought about older motor generations with this feature. The new feature not only helps e-bikers with the latest Performance CX and CX-R. It will also be available on other motors, some of which are older. These include the Performance SX light motor and the two predecessor versions BDU37 of the Performance CX and CX Race. The last two versions of the Cargo-Line (BDU37 and BDU38) are also compatible.
