Bosch already announced it at Eurobike. eShift and automatic shifting will now also work with the new Di2 gears from Shimano. And the Light Motor Performance SX has been given more oomph, or more precisely, a higher maximum torque. There are also some exciting improvements to display views, error messages and navigation on top.
With the update to version 1.30, Bosch E-Bike Systems is launching numerous new functions for the smart system and the E-Bike Flow app. The update enables riders to customise their e-bike displays even more individually to suit their personal preferences. On demanding tours in particular, it is important to keep an eye on the relevant riding data at all times. For example, the Kiox 400C display dynamically shows power or cadence. With the new update, e-bike users can now choose from over 30 customisation options and put together exactly the information that is important to them personally.
The arrangement of the tiles is now even more flexible. The update to version 1.30 brings with it nine additional configuration options in the E-Bike Flow app. The Kiox 300, Kiox 400C and Kiox 500 displays now have even more layouts to choose from - from the display of a single, clearly focussed value to the simultaneous display of multiple ride data. This flexibility ensures a better overview during every journey and adapts to the different requirements of different driving situations.

Another important innovation concerns the navigation functions. Anyone planning a route and importing it from services such as Komoot often wants to follow it exactly as it was originally planned or recommended. The new "Follow original route" function offers precisely this option: E-bike riders can now follow planned routes without automatic detours - even on unfamiliar routes.
The display only shows the route line, but does not provide voice navigation or turn-by-turn directions. This function is activated via the "Follow original route" button in the settings of the imported route. Before the start, a message appears indicating that individual sections of the route may be difficult to navigate. This function is particularly aimed at riders who want to follow a specified route exactly, for example for special trail recommendations or carefully planned tours through challenging terrain. The display without distracting additional information allows you to concentrate on the route line.
Technical support is also improved with the update. In addition to an error code, the display now also shows a QR code that can be scanned directly with a smartphone. This automatically takes e-bike users to the appropriate support page in the Bosch Help Centre. There they will find a clear description of the problem and specific steps to solve it.
This function is designed to significantly reduce the time it takes to rectify errors, as there is no need to go through cumbersome search functions or menus. Instead, users can access the relevant help directly with a simple scan.
In addition to the software improvements, the update also brings an increase in performance for the Performance Line SX. The update now gives the SX more power. More precisely: the maximum torque, which can be adjusted via the Flow app, increases from 55 to 60 Newton metres. This means that Bosch can now compete with the new TQ HPR 60 (tested here) or Fazuas Ride 60 (test here) the same.
These improvements are particularly noticeable on technical trails and at low cadences. Thanks to the increased torque, maximum power should also be easier to access due to the special power curve of the SX. In addition, the eMTB+ mode introduced in spring will be available with the update for the Performance Line SX.
E-bike riders can decide for themselves whether they want to keep the default values or customise the parameters in the E-Bike Flow app. Because one thing is clear: the higher torque and the associated higher power at the bottom can also put more strain on the range and components. In our range tests to date, the SX also regularly showed a drop in performance due to overheating after 10 to 15 minutes at full throttle. We will soon be testing how the motor performs with the performance update.
The update also brings improvements for the electronic shifting solution eShift. The update makes numerous functions available that Bosch E-Bike Systems announced at Eurobike 2025. These include optimised software for automatic shifting with eShift, the M+ feature and additional compatible shifting solutions from Shimano.
There are also new options for users of the Rohloff E-14: They can now flexibly choose between manual and automatic shifting. The improved integration of different gear types emphasises Bosch's systemic approach, in which all components work together in a coordinated manner.
The new update is particularly beneficial for sporty e-mountain bikers who regularly use the Bosch SX for demanding uphills. With higher torque and the fantastic EMTB+ mode with extended coasting, much more should be possible here. Improvements to the display configuration and navigation are welcome, if not drastic, innovations, while eShift with Shimano is likely to play a role in the market from 2026 onwards. - Adrian Kaether, Editor Test & Technology
