Bosch: The new super motor?
The Generation 4 motor from Bosch is intended to set a new benchmark. If you believe the manufacturer's advertising messages, the new motor can do everything better. We have tested the promises in the laboratory and in practice.

Thrilling video footage, challenging trails, impressive landscapes. The new video by Bosch representative Stefan Schlie shows e-mountain biking at its best - wow! But beware: it's also full of superlatives. Sponsor Bosch raves about his new super engine, the Performance CX drive.

Sure, that's how advertising works. In EMTB 4/2019, we compared the new e-bike drive unit directly with the competitor Brose Drive S Mag tested. In the lab and in practice. We explain what the Gen4 drive from Bosch can really do and where its strengths and weaknesses lie.

Florentin Vesenbeckh has been on a mountain bike since he was ten years old. Even on his very first tour, he focussed on single trails - and even after more than 30 years in the saddle of an MTB, these are still the quintessence of biking for him. He spent his youth competing in various bike disciplines and later his cycling career was characterised by years as a riding technique coach. Professionally, the experienced test editor now focusses on e-mountainbikes. In recent years, the qualified sports scientist and trained journalist has tested over 300 bikes and more than 40 different motor systems in the laboratory and in practice.
