A software update for Bosch motors from the smart system is set to give e-bike riders even more options for fine-tuning their drive system. Traction control and preload can now be adjusted individually. There has also been an improvement in charging time.

With the release of version 1.38, Bosch eBike Systems is expanding the functionality of its smart system. Traction control and the drivetrain tensioner can now be adjusted for individual riding modes. In addition, Trick Check now features a permanent display of the most recently recorded values, whilst the display shows the time remaining until the battery is fully charged whilst charging. The Traction control had been introduced with the latest power upgrade in early summer - but until now it could not be adjusted directly.

Adjust traction control for each driving mode

Traction control regulates engine torque to prevent the rear wheel from spinning. With this update, riders can, for the first time, set the function separately for each riding mode to ‘off’, ‘low’, ‘medium’ or ‘high’. On dry surfaces, the intervention can be reduced for maximum propulsion, whilst on loose or wet trails it can be increased. This means, for example, that one mode can be optimised for traction, whilst another is geared towards powerful thrust. The option can be found in the eBike Flow app under ‘Custom riding modes > Advanced > Traction control’.

Activate the drivetrain tensioner as required

The drivetrain tensioner can now also be switched on and off for each individual riding mode. This function tightens the drivetrain and reduces the pedal travel. This is intended to make propulsion more immediate when pedalling, for example when approaching a step or accelerating out of tight bends. By default, the drivetrain tensioner remains deactivated in all riding modes.

Trick Check remains visible

The relatively new ‘Trick Check’ feature can be added as a separate screen in the Flow app’s display settings. Once an activity has started, the message ‘Wait for trick’ appears initially. The system recognises wheelies, manuals, jumps and stoppies – and measures the distance covered. Whilst a trick is being recorded, the display shows the values in real time. The maximum values achieved are then held until the next trick begins. Previously, the display was only visible on the screen for a short time.

Remaining charging time shown on the display

When a charger is connected, the estimated remaining charging time until the battery is fully charged automatically appears on the display, shown in hours and minutes. This feature is available on all displays except the Intuvia 100. With Flow+ and ConnectModule, the remaining charging time can also be viewed in the eBike Flow app. Previously, only the current charge level could be viewed. This will continue to be displayed in future, alongside the remaining charging time.
