The Transalp Challenge as the acid test for the new generation of motors. As a route photographer, I was able to gain metres in altitude and experience with Brose's Drive SMag and the new Bosch Performance CX in extreme use. But that was only part of our big comparison test between the two stars of the new generation of motors. They also had to prove their abilities in a direct comparison on defined test routes. For example, on an alpine trail near Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Here, a selective scree path climbs 750 metres in altitude, where the differences in response, modulation and maximum power were impressively noticeable at key points.
And last but not least, the test subjects had to undergo various tests on the EMTB roller test bench. On the one hand, to underpin the practical tests with hard facts. Secondly, to test the reach height and derating behaviour (temperature-related reduction in power) under comparable and constant laboratory conditions.
Brose was able to provide us with the new complete system including its own battery and display for testing - the first real complete system from the Berlin-based automotive specialists. With its 630 watt-hour battery, the arrangement is therefore directly comparable to the Bosch Performance CX system, which we were able to test on a Cannondale Habit Neo during the Transalp Challenge and later on various other bikes.
